When my dad was researching what would turn into his international bestseller, Forever Island, he had to get to know the Seminole way of life. That knowledge also gave him other ideas for novels, the most popular one being A Land Remembered.
But there was another story he had to tell, this time from a younger Seminole’s perspective on how excessive development found him torn between his love for his traditional way of life and the need to provide a better future for his own family. That story became his novel, Allapattah.

Synopsis of Allapattah
The novel Allapattah follows Toby Tiger, a young Seminole Indian, as he struggles to navigate a world dominated by white men. The title refers to the Seminole word for crocodile, an animal that holds great significance to Toby and serves as a symbol of his journey toward self-discovery and liberation.
Toby’s sense of self is closely intertwined with his environment and way of life. However, as the encroachment of the white man threatens his territory, Toby finds himself facing heartless hunters, arrogant tourists, a rigid game warden, and an overwhelmed judge. To reconnect with the land that sustains him, his beloved grandfather, and Allapattah, Toby realizes he must take decisive action. An action that may risk everything he holds dear, including his life.
